Buy Irish for Christmas Store List- Shop In Ireland – shop local

    Hello Readers,

I saw this post on twitter(my twitter handle  is #ecotreasure), and thought it would be good to share, everybody likes a good deal when shopping, and by buying Irish made products or Irish based vendors, you are supporting the Irish economy and local jobs.

There is one particular store I love shopping which hasn’t made it to this list yet, they are called http://mccul.ie/– and specialised in children’s clothing: Inspired by Irish myths and legends, McCul produce original cutting-edge designs for children and adults, using the finest quality materials.   McCul clothes are great value and extremely durable. Sign up to their newsletter, and you’ll get a discount coupon via their monthly newsletter. I recently received their November newsletter, and the discount code “present” (remove the apostrophies) will give you a 20% discount until Christmas… Below is a longer list of Irish shops that have an online shop, check them out, some have a special offer, reduced/free shipping – do check them out!

Buy Irish for Christmas – List of Stores

    buy-irish-for-christmas

We have compiled the below list of Irish based online stores in an effort to encourage Irish consumers to #buyirish if ordering Christmas Gifts online this year.
We will be updating this list regularly over the coming weeks. To get included simply email ronan@ecomevents.com with details on your store and also any details on special offers or discount codes you would like to promote.
With 75 % of the money spent by Irish consumers online in 2012  leaving our shores this is our opportunity to fight back. If we can reduce this 75% figure by  1% to 74% it would translate into a direct 40 million boost to the local economy and significantly increase the chance that many Irish online stores will survive, grow and create employment.

  • Can you help to identify all the counties in Ireland?

Can you help to identify all the counties in Ireland?

    Hi all,

Those of you on facebook, I have set up a facebook group for my blog!
You can find it here! Please come and see hello!

I was following these posts about how Europeans were trying to identify the various states in the USA and Americans trying to identify countries in Europe, and it turns out we are all struggling to get them right!

I then thought, let ‘s see how many of you can identify all the Irish counties correctly.

I found this online tool called Marqueed, that allows you to collaborate, so I dare you, there is 32 of them, so the more people partcipate, the better. I have marked Cork( Ok that was easy)

Just  click on this link  and then the freehand tool allows you to write on the image.

Let’s see how fast the map fills up!
I am also uploading the image here, so you can print it out, fill it in, and then you can email  it to me!
Just right click on the image and choose save as, and then print the document out!

  • 50 books, 50 offers, 25 hours

    Start shopping now!
Click here! 50 books, 50 offers, 25 hours-FREE delivery WW
    FAQs

    • So what is this thing?

The Countdown promotion will run for 25 hours, starting at noon GMT, Thursday 28 November 2013. There will be a new book available on the UK homepage for a great price every 30 minutes. The last one will go up Friday 29 November 2013 at 12:30pm GMT.

Can I buy all the books?

You can buy as many of the books as you like; we offer free worldwide delivery, so there is no harm in shopping again & again throughout the day. You are however limited to three copies of each book per person — it’s only fair that as many people as possible get to grab a bargain.

What happens if I’m checking out and the books run out?

The book you’re ordering is only definitely yours when you see the confirmation page — up to that point if someone beats you to it, then sorry you’re out of luck. We hope everyone will get at least one of the titles they’re after.

These offers are really good, are they the same books as normal?

Yes — we’ve done some very special deals with some very special publishers to bring you these great bargains.

Oops. In all the excitement I bought a book I don’t want.

That’s fine. Don’t panic — just let us know via the form on our contact us page and we’ll cancel the order for you, as long as it hasn’t already shipped.

Is there a way to find out what the next offer is?

No, sorry, the fact it’s a secret is all part of the fun!
    • I added a book to my basket and it was removed, what happened?

Sorry, the book sold out during the time it took to add it to your basket, better luck next time.

I fell asleep waiting for the next product and missed it — can I still get it at the offer price somehow?

Sorry, no. These offers are known as WIGIGs in the trade (When It’s Gone, It’s Gone); after the offer is over you’ll often be able to buy the book again but at the normal price.

How long are you doing the offer for?

A new title will be added from noon GMT on Thursday 28 November to 12:30pm GMT on Friday 29 November. Then we’ll all need a bit of a lie down.

Are the products on offer still shipped for free?

Yes, indeed they are. We have free worldwide delivery.

Are there any tricks to get through the checkout quickly?

We recommend that you set up an account (although you don’t need one to shop) and add a credit card ready, save fumbling around when too excited (though you will still need your CVV number).

I’ve got some other questions you’ve not covered here

  • parcelmotel.com and fatcheese.ie -shop till you drop(and get cashback whilst you are shopping)

parcelmotel.com and fatcheese.ie -shop till you drop(and get cashback whilst you are shopping)

    Hello Readers,

Now that Halloween has long been forgotten, Christmas is next on the shopping list.
I love shopping, but as there aren’t really many shops near me, I look on-line, the choice is endless:)
One of the challenges of living in Ireland, is to get cheap/free delivery ,especially from the UK.
If you shop on Amazon or Ebay, very often the seller offers free shipping to the UK, but deliveries to Ireland
will cost a small fortune… but I am glad to say, Parcelmotel.com offers a great solution.

I  placed an order on Amazon UK yesterday, and  the shipping charges were going to be 12 Pounds.
I signed up for parcelmotel.com – who are based in Newtonabbey in Northern Ireland .
    They  provide
you with their address and a PM reference, which you need to use for your delivery address.
As Northern Ireland is part of the UK, it’s considered a UK address, so the shipping charges changed to
5 Pounds.  It could have been free if the products were being shipped by Amazon, in this case it was a third party, so the free shipping does not apply( It only applies if it shipped by Amazon directly)
They have a few places around Ireland( nearest for me is Galway or Ennis), where I can go and pick up my parcel. I’l receive a text once the parcel has arrived. The cost is only 3.5 Euro per parcel, so it’s a great deal!
Talking about Amazon – there is thing called Black Friday ,  Black Friday Deals on Amazon they are like daily deals, but  only available for a few days.
Shop on Ebay there are some great deals to be gotten.
Shopping is great, and it’s even more exciting that some companies will pay you a % if you shop via them.
The best known in Ireland is called Fatcheese.
Just click on the below banner to open up an account, and get paid for shopping via them.

So if you shop via Fatcheese on the Debenhams website for example, you’ll get 4% cashback which you can then claim via your bankaccount, paypal account , Amazon Gift voucher.
(by the way, the Debenhams sale is great, but if you shop on your mobile, you’ll get an extra code that gives you another 10 % off- just an extra push to shop on your mobile device)
    Happy shopping:)

  • Ryanair to add new routes from Dublin and Shannon

    Hi all,

I am always excited when there are airlines adding new routes, especially if it’s out of Shannon, which is on the West Coast, as although it’s (only) a 2.5 hours drive to Dublin, it’s only a 45 minutes drive to Shannon for us, so I much prefer to drive to Shannon, rather  than Dublin.

There were two announcements recently : new routes out of Dublin :
The new routes are to Almeria, Bari, Basel, Bucharest, Chania, Comiso, Lisbon, Marrakesh and Prague. They bring the airline’s total routes from Dublin to 85 and will start from next April.
    Full article here

    The new Shannon routes:
The services will fly between Shannon and Berlin, Paris, Warsaw, Nice, Fuerteventura, Krakow, Faro and Munich.
    Full article here

And it seems Michael O’Leary is looking into offering flights to Russia.
(if only he brought back the flights from Shannon to Brussels-that’s what I really would like:) – or Eindhoven, that would be fine too)

    All the best!

    Hi all,

I was in Galway earlier today, dropping off my mum at the bus station :(, and decided to go for a stroll into Galway City where I did some pre Christmas shopping( Debenhams were having a GREAT sale ) and made my way to Shop Street, where I wandered into Carphonewarehouse.

There was a huge Lycamobile sign. I have seen Lycamobile in the UK and in other  European countries, but never seen it in Ireland, so I thought I’d inquire about the offerings of their plans.
Below are the Sim Only pricing, so you’ll need to have an( unlocked) phone for their Sim Card to work in your phone.
Ordering a SimCard is free and you could pick up a phone for less than 20 Euros at Carphonewarehouse. (why not order one before visiting Ireland)

I haven’t really found another provider that offers this.

  • The Last Islandman on the Great Blasket

    Hi Readers,

I have never been to the Blasket Islands, but visited the visitor center a few times. It’s one that made a big impression on me, as it tells the story of how people lived on the Blasket Islands. They lived in very harsh conditions, and eventually they all had to move off the Island, due to the rough weather and difficulties to get medical help to and from the Island.

I’ll just never forget the pictures I saw! Some of the Blasket Islanders moved to the USA, there was a picture of them in front of their cottage versus a picture of their house in the USA, all sunny and a swimming pool in the background. … stark contrasts!!

There are quite a few Irish writers that came from the Island, one particular one called Tomas O’Crohan wrote a book called “Island Man”, which I thoroughly enjoyed.  You can read more about Tom O’Crohan here.

The article I found in the Telegraph ( sorry it’s no longer free) highlights the yearning of one man, who was born on the Island, moved to the USA, but wanted to go back.
Some amazing landscape and some beautiful music. Glad he made it back.
    Enjoy!
