The Company manufactures the range of ACUVUE disposable contact lenses to the highest quality. We are the largest producer disposable contact lenses in the world and ACUVUE is the leading product in the market. The technology at Limerick is the most advanced in the contact lens industry and we now employ over 600 people on site.Vistakon Ireland was established in 1995 on the National Technological Park close to the University of Limerick. We produce daily disposable lenses in a state of the art technology facility which includes injection moulding, robotics, vision systems and sterilisation systems. All product is manufactured to rigorous parameter specification within a class 100,000 cleanroom environment. The production process is fully automated and the lens is untouched by hand from start to finish of the process. Since our final product will be in touch with the human eye, there are stringent quality and hygiene checks throughout. Overall, the plant’s information systems are run in accordance with ISO and FDA regulations.The Limerick facility was originally fitted out with six advanced production lines to manufacture one day disposable contact lenses for the European and Japanese Markets. Homestart Ireland, a helping hand for families
Dear Readers,
Many parents need help, friendship, advice or support during those early years when children are young. Every family is different, indeed every child is different. There is no rulebook for raising a family and sometimes it can seem overwhelming, particularly if your family is going through difficult times.
As a parent you might ask for Home-Start’s help for all sorts of reasons:
You may be feeling isolated in your community, have no family nearby and be struggling to make friends
You may be feeling low or depressed after giving birth
You may be finding it hard to cope because of your own or your child’s illness.
You may have been hit hard by the death of a loved one.
You may be really struggling with emotional and physical demands of having twins or triplets – perhaps born into an already large family.Help is at hand. We support any family who needs us, as long as they have at least one child under five.
Home-Start is an independent, voluntary organisation. If you ask for Home-Start’s help you can be sure of total confidentiality.
After asking for our support you will meet with one of our local coordinators who will carefully match you with one of our volunteers. Our volunteers, who all have parenting experience, will visit you for a couple of hours a week and give you both emotional and practical help.
The often overwhelming demands of rearing young children can take their toll on any parent. There is nothing uncommon about asking for help from Home-Start. Parents often need support in coping and Home-Start is here to help.

I wrote about http://www.irexo.com/ a while back. The National Pilot Project of the Ireland Reaching Out Project is being developed in South-East Galway from Sept 2010 through to June 2011.
The website will be going live, and you are invited to a Parish a meeting in the Lady Gregory Hotel in Gort, Co. Galway to kick start this project tomorrow, the 3rd of February at 8 PM.

The event will be attended by a number of the programme’s sponsors including representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs.
All are welcome and new participants are particularly encouraged to attend. This is an ideal opportunity to introduce new parish team members to the project as well as meet other parish welcome team volunteers from communities across South-East Galway.

Quest to create 150 jobs in Cork

Just as the ESRI is estimating that 100 000 people will leave this green Island( that’s a 1000 people a week for the next 2 years), there is some good news on the Horizon for County Cork, as Quest will create 150 jobs at an international shared services centre in Cork. The development is supported by IDA Ireland.You can check out their Job RSS Feed here

Undergraduates, get your CAO application in before the 20th and pay only 30 Euros!
Hello Reader,
If you are intending to submit your CAO application, why not do it before the 20th of January, when you can enjoy a reduced online fee of 30 Euros( normally it’s 40 Euros.) If you leave it till after 1st of May, it will cost you online 60 Euros and Paper applications 80 Euros.
Here is some info who/what/where the CAO is…
The higher education institutions in the Republic of Ireland have delegated to CAO the task of processing centrally applications to their first year undergraduate courses.
The participating institutions retain the function of making decisions on admissions.
CAO is required to deal with applications in an efficient and fair manner.
CAO is a not-for-profit company registered in Ireland.

IRELAND’S games industry has received a jobs boost with US- owned PopCap Games confirming that it intends to double the number it employs to 110 at its European headquarters in Dublin.Current vacancies – click hereThe Seattle-based game developer established its European HQ in Dublin in 2005, employing 10 in its start-up phase. The company now employs 55 and senior director Cathy Orr confirmed yesterday that the firm is planning to create an additional 55 jobs at its Dublin office.“We are aiming to double the number we employ here over the next two to three years,” she said.PopCap Games is part of the burgeoning game sector in Ireland that includes subsidiaries of some of the best-known names in the industry, such as Zynga, Activision Blizzard and Big Fish Games.PopCap Games’ most popular games include Bejewelled, Zuma, Peggle and Plants v Zombies.Recently filed accounts show that PopCap’s after-tax profits decreased by 79% to €613,152 in 2009.However, Ms Orr pointed out that contrasting the 2008 and 2009 results was not comparing like with like as the company’s European and Asian revenues were split for the first time in 2009, while the group made an additional one-time change in how revenues are recognised in Ireland to reflect global products initiated here.The accounts show that revenues at the firm in 2009 declined by 55% from €10.2 million to €6.7m.
