5 Loops to Cycle in the Burren Lowlands this May Bankholiday #GortCycleTrails

    Hi all,

Making plans to go for a cycle this May Bank Holiday? Let me give you 5 loops you can cycle/walk in the Burren Lowlands. Support my fundraiser for #CycleAgainstSuicide #ShareTheLoadOnTheRoad  I am also planning a community cycle from Woodford to Flagmount – if you are interested in this, sign up here to get updates.  Join the Gort Cycle Trails Facebook group here.

    Mary’s Walk Peterswell

Mary’s Walk Peterswell – 5 Kms —  Peterswell is approximately 10 Kms from Gort and has a number of walking loops and cycle trails( OK, the higher up you go, the more muscle power you need) I mapped Mary’s walk a while back! Mary’s Walk does have a few hills, so if you are cycling, I recommend you do the cycle clockwise ( I walk some of it where the hills are too taxing), but very doable… Beautiful country views on very quiet roads. Instructions here.

    Gort’s Mini-Greenway

Gort’s Mini -Greenway – 5 kms ( one way)—  This is a hidden treasure that very few people know about – a very safe way to cycle or walk into Coole Park from Gort! Walk or cycle into Coole Park and reward yourself with your favourite tea/coffee, delicious sandwiches and cake at Coole Park Tea-Rooms ( I’ll have one of their rocky roads any day – tell them I sent you) Instructions here.

    Sean Bingham Mausoleum Ardrahan

Sean Bingham Mausoleum Adrahan – 10 km — Also this is a little treasure I’d recommend you check out… It’s a gentle cycle, starting from Labane ( or you can start from Ardrahan). Bring a picnic to eat at the picnic table and enjoy the views. Instructions here. If you are looking for a longer cycle, check out the Adrahan Drumharsna Castle and Old Mile Stones Bikeride here.

Thoor Ballylee to Gort RiverWalk Via Kiltartan Gregory Museum

Skehanagh -ThoorBallylee – Gort River Walk – Kiltartan Gregory Museum Loop – 20 Km  This is a very nice cycle/walk on (mostly very quiet scenic roads) from Thoor Ballylee into Gort via the Gort River Walk. It would make a great day out, take your time, enjoy a picnic at the Gort River Walk, at Thoor Ballylee or at Kiltartan Gregory Museum. Instructions here.

Join my Facebook Group Gort Cycling Trails and let me know if you cycled or walked any of the trails, what you thought about them, and if there are other cycle trails that should be mapped in the #burrenlowlands

For a full list of #SafeCycleTrails  and maps I have mapped so far, click here. I have done a lot of cycling in the last few weeks, and will be adding a number of new loops shortly!

Gort Cycle Trails raising funds for #CycleAgainstSuicide

I am currently raising funds for #CycleAgainstSuicide to raise 500 Euros to train someone in the community to become a buddy. The Community buddy programme trains and equips participants with the practical, hands-on skills and knowledge they need to deliver support to those in mental health distress in their local communities.  Donations can be made via Idonate , Facebook and Instagram or simply click on the below image !

Have a great May Bank Holiday

  • The last of the Indian Summer – part two!

The last of the Indian Summer – part two!

    Hello all,

So I thought that the we had had the last of our our Indian Summer last weekend, but I am glad to tell you we had another beautiful weekend. It’s been a busy weekend, as I had the usual Rugby training, then I started to plant the bulbs for my #Bumbleance fundraiser, took Rueben to #Coderdojo in Loughrea and as I really enjoyed our walk to the Coole Park, I decided to go back today with the whole family!

Enclosing some of the pictures I took!

    Rueben at Coder Dojo Loughrea

To finish off , we went to Coole Park. I really enjoyed our walk from last weekend, so I convinced Alex and David to join. The horses were no longer there, which I think is to do with the fact that we had some rain recently and the place will flood shortly. The pictures below are probably of a better quality than the previous once, as I lost my phone at the airport in Eindhoven on the return of one of my recent trips but thankfully got the phone back..

Last week the water wasn’t as high as it was today

Last week we were able to cross over here, but due to recent rain fall, it’s getting flooded

The horses that were here last week , are gone.

Fundraiser for #Bumbleance, I am going to grow( and sell) 200 Hyacinths! Check out how to reserve one now!

    Hi all,

I decided during the summer holidays I wanted to do a fundraiser for #Bumbleance growing Hyacinths. The type I am going to grow are called the “prepared ” version, and if I plan them around now, they’ll flower around Christmas, and will make a perfect Christmas gift!
I made some enquiries and was delighted to get sponsored by Horkans!

I have started a separate blog with the progress , so please come and visit my other blog to keep up to date how I am doing there! You can find the blog here: http://hyacinthflowerchallenge.wordpress.com

I picked up the bulbs, and this was one of the pictures I took!

    Thanks!

  • The first Facebook CV & Online language learning

    Dear Readers,
I’d like to wish you and your family a very happy, healthy 2012, and I hope that your dreams will come through in 2012.

If your new years resolution is to get a job, you’ll find this blog entry particulary useful as it explains how you could use facebook to create your CV , promote yourself, and ultimately find a job!

It’s particularly relevant , as you can read from the below blogpost.
It is written by an Italian man who emigrated to the UK as he couldn’t find a job in his own country, which is something which is happening in Ireland on a daily basis too.

However, as he explains, he set it up  here are the very usefull instructions in English and as he is Italian, here they are in Italian.. he found a job in his own country and actually very near where he is actually from.

Check out the following article :Ideas can beat the crisis: the first Facebook CV

On another note, if the above dosn’t really apply to you, and you are heading to greener pastures for a while, but need to learn a new language to speed up the integration process, I’d suggest you join http://www.livemocha.com, which allows you to learn the basics of just about any language for free. You can also check them on Facebook here.
It’s very interactive and I found the lessons very constructive, I would highly recommend it. You can also help others who are  learning your language ( you’d be surprised who wants to learn your language!)

My new years resolution is , is to raise funds for charity. I have done it before, and really enjoyed it! I raised 4.500 Euros growing dwarf sunflowers ( mini sunflowers) for Crumlin  and I have a couple of ideas to raise money , but I’d like to have your input, as the better the idea/product, the more likely it will succeed( and raise as much money as possible)
I would really appreciate 2 minutes of your time to complete this Survey

    Thanks!
